How To Help A Friend

What should you do if you suspect a friend or teammate is using PEDs?

Most importantly, you shouldn’t ignore it. You might be the only person he or she can rely on for help.

Before you talk with your friend about PED use, do some research and come up with a plan. Even though Web sites like freevibe.com and theantidrug.com focus on the use of illegal drugs, visit them to get tips on the best way to approach your friend, what to say and how to get support for him or her and yourself.

When you’re ready to talk, remember that the most important thing is to let your friend know that you care. Tell him or her that you want to talk about using PEDs because you don’t want anything bad to happen. Reassure your friend that you care and that you want to help.

Don’t do it alone

Helping a friend with a serious problem, like PED or other drug use, is difficult, and you shouldn’t feel like you have to help your friend all by yourself. Ask a caring adult – a coach, school counselor, parent or doctor – to help you and your friend.

If your friend is using steroids, it’s a very good idea to get an adult involved. Many people that stop using steroids experience severe depression and suicidal thoughts. An adult can help your friend get the help he or she needs from a medical or mental health care professional who can help your friend deal with these feelings safely and recover from steroid use.
